Free Girl’s Cricket Coaching
Following the success of the girls course which ran at Barrow Cricket Club last summer, Barrow District Development Group is running a free course which starts at Chetwynde Sports Hall on Monday 24th January.

The course will be staffed by three English Cricket Board qualified coaches and is open to girls from the age of 8 to 14.

The 6 sessions are 24th and 31st January; 7th, 14th, 21st February and 7th March, 6.30 to 8.00pm.

Mini Futsal League
InsideOut Soccer will be holding a 4 week mini-futsal league (indoor 5-a-side) for under-8, under-9 and Under-10 teams at Chetwynde sports hall. Games will be played on the following dates;
Saturday 22nd January
Saturday 29th January
Saturday 5th February
Saturday 12th February.

The Under 8 will start at 9am, The Under 9 will start approximately 10.30am and the under 10 will start at approx 12.00pm
Entries for teams can be made by existing teams i.e. junior football teams or from groups of individuals who fancy trying out the game of Futsal. Each league will contain a maximum of 8 teams and each team will play 7 x 10 minute games over 4 weeks ( 2 games in the first 3 weeks and one game in the final week). All children taking part in the under-8 competition will receive a certificate of achievement and the winners of the under 9 and under 10 league will receive medals.

Parish Nurse FREE Fitness Classes
Parish Nurse Ruth McDonald is running a free fitness class every week during term time.

The weekly session includes aerobics to lively and uplifting music.

Ruth is also available to talk about weight loss, diet and healthy living.
Sessions are every Wednesday at 6 – 7pm at Emmanuel Community Church (opposite Morrison’s Supermarket) during term time.

Phase IV cardiac rehab sessions at DS Training
The first month is FREE.

Eurocamp Residential Basketball Camp at Hoops Basketball Centre
The event will take place from Sunday 31st July to Friday 5th August 2011
2011 prices have not increased on the 2010 price and are set at £239.00 for a residential camper
or £159.00 for local campers who sleep at home.
This price includes the 12 hours of activity/coaching, three hot meals per day (non residential do not get breakfast) and a full Eurocamp basketball kit to keep.

Half term Barrow AFC Skill Centre
The Skill Centre includes skill sessions, coaching from Barrow AFC players and lots of fun games to improve skill technique, tactical awareness and build confidence. There will be Barrow AFC merchandise and prizes to be won! – The course is open to 7 – 15 year olds.

All Coaches:
• Are FA qualified
• Hold a full enhanced CRB check
• Hold a full First Aid Certificate

Players will need:
• Outdoor clothing
• Football boots and Shin guards
• A mid Morning snack
• A packed lunch
• Lots of energy!!!

Cost for the Festival is:
• £10 per day
• £30 for the week

Barrow Independent Supporters Club
Barrow’s next away game is at Gateshead on Tuesday 18 January, and the Independent Supporters’ Club (ISC) are taking bookings for their coach to the north-east.

If you fancy it, the coach will leave Ramsden Square at 3.30pm, and as always, pick-ups en route can be arranged, seats cost £18 for members and £20 for non-members.

For the trip to Kidderminster Harriers on Saturday 22 January, the ISC coach will pull out of Ramsden Square, 8.30am and pick-ups en route can be arranged. Seats cost £22 for members and £24 for non-members.

Community Amateur Sports Clubs (CASC)

Is your sports club CASC registered?

If you have property, this automatically gets you 80% rate relief every year
(and you can apply to the Council for a further reduction).

Furness Crusaders want new players
Furness Crusaders rugby union teams are looking to strengthen their existing squads at under 13, 12 and 10 levels.

Barrow Female Rugby League Club
Barrow Female RLFC has now been established to give women and girls over 14 an opportunity to play touch rugby.
Training sessions take place at Hoops Basketball Centre from 7.30pm to 9pm on Wednesdays.
It is hoped to stage some matches at half time in Raiders matches against other team’s supporters.

Women’s Rounders League
Enjoyed rounders at school but haven’t played since. Barrow and District Women’s Rounders League could be just what you are looking for. The league doesn’t start again until May but teams need to register by 1st March.

New teams and players are always welcome.

BarrO Orienteering Club has started winter training sessions at Hawcoat Park every Wednesday.

We have lots of fun games led by our friends from Barrow AFC, Barrow Raiders, Furness Striders & Insideout.

MAX Inspiration at the Gym at the Park Leisure Centre
MAX Inspiration at the Youth Gym at the Park Leisure Centre
Now on Saturday and Sunday 10.30 to 11.30am @£2.50 a session
Session at the Youth Gym for children with a disability have now been extended to include Saturday and Sunday.
All children taking part in these sessions MUST be accompanied by a parent, guardian, carer or responsible adult.
This person must also stay with the child throughout the session as they are responsible for making sure the child exercises safely.
The Park Leisure Centre will not be having a dedicated member of staff working in the Youth Gym at these times.
However, the staff member working in the Adult Gym will be available to assist or offer advice when necessary.
If attending the MAX Inspiration sessions for the first time please make it known to the instructor on duty that they need to demonstrate how all the equipment works.
This will be monitored for a few weeks to make sure it works successfully.

PlayMAX – Indoor Soft Play area and sensory room

Maximum Fun for kids of all abilities!

Indoor Soft Play Area – £2 per child
PlayMAX is a newly created indoor play soft arena. .
It’s a safe environment for all children, including those with disabilities and with challenging behaviour.
The soft play area contains various wedges, waves, logs and steps, slide, ball pool, trampoline, illuminated cabin and interactive musical hopscotch, upturned mushroom which rocks from side to side, sensation trail and funky slouch pods.

Please note ‘Max Inspiration Sensory Room’ sessions are for children with a disability.

Sensory Room – £2.50 for 30 minutes or if you’d like to stay longer, extra sessions can be booked. In the sensory room, situated within the arena, is a highly flexible, controlled multi-sensory stimulation environment using lighting effects, colour, sounds, scents and textures.
The sensory room is designed for people with sensory, cognitive and physical impairments and meets the challenge of both the interactive and the passive user through educational and therapeutic activities.
The Sensory Room is only available for children with a disability.
For use of the Sensory Room, it is essential that he have an induction by one of the Park Leisure Centre Staff so you know how to use the equipment before you book a session.

Parents/Carers of Disabled Children Forum

Parents and carers of disabled children getting together for support and change
We welcome all parents/carers of disabled children to come and join us.
We meet every few weeks to discuss how to improve the lives of our children and ourselves.
We work with providers of services to ensure they meet the needs of our children.
We help to promote positive opportunities available for our children.
And we provide support to each other.

The next meeting is on Friday 21st January at 1pm in the Nan Tait Centre
