Love Barrow awardsNomination form 2010

The 2010 Love Barrow Community Awards will be launched on Thursday 10th Sept 2009. The nomination form is attached above. Access it by clicking on “Nomination form 2010”. Do you know any local heroes who dedicate a lot of their time to help others or their community. If so, please submit a nomination form that is in the link above. It is a very simple form to complete, but please provide as mauch details as possible. You can submit a form annonymously, but it really helps us if you provide your details.
The categories for nomination are as follows:
Carer – Teacher – Citizen – Young Citizen
Sports Volunteer – Courage – Community Group/project
PLEASE if you have previously nominated someone that have not been short listed, try try again! We have had a great response, but pls, if you know someone who deserves an award, nominate them now

Windermere StreetSafe

Community police officers will conduct a StreetSafe Operation in Windermere on Monday 13th July 2009 which will include visiting up to 260 local residents in the area surrounding  Queens Park to survey them about the area in which they live and encourage them to talk to us about any issues or concerns they may have.

Other agencies assisting with the event will be Fire and Rescue officers, Cumbria County Council, South Lakes Housing, Impact Housing, CADAS, local councillors, the Town Centre Manager, South Lakeland District Council’s Cleansing staff and active citizens.

Upcoming Streetsafe: Queen’s Park area

On 13th July between 1600-1800hrs the Police and other partner agencies will be carrying out a large scale StreetSafe Operation in the Queens Park area of Windermere.

We will be visiting approximately 250 properties on the day on Park Road, Limethwaite Road, Droomer Drive, School Knott Drive and Mill Beck Close. Briefing will take place at Windermere Fire Station at 1600hrs and light refreshments served. All welcome to come along and assist please.

Walk to Piel Island and beach clean up

piel-poster Sunday 31st May 2009 9am – 3pm. Martin Clunes around Britain programme is highlighting Piel Island on May 10th. Do you fancy walking over to this jewel in the Furness area, see some amazing views including the seal colony, a BBQ with a beach clean up. Then come along and join in this fun family day out on Sunday 31st May 09. Please see attached poster for full details. U16’s must be accompanied by an adult.

“Up the Wall” Project

 The “Up the Wall” project organized by PC David Buxton, Ambleside Community Beat Officer, was given a boost with a contribution from the Streetsafe Community fund. Police in Ambleside are continuing to tackle youth disorder and anti-social behavior by providing a second group of young people from the area with a free course of Friday night activities. Held in the University of Cumbria campus in Ambleside, the seven week “Up the Wall” program that started on Friday 6th February, provided the young people with training and experience on the climbing wall up until Easter.

Lakes School Streetsafe

on the 30th March from 9.00-3.00pm a multi-agency event at the Lakes school in Windermere will take place where we will be speaking to year 9 + 10 students on the day about home & school life and what they like to do in their free time.

Streetsafe – Ambleside March 09

Streetsafe visited Ambleside on March 18th. Many agencies were involved in this successful operation. The Chief Constable of Cumbria Constabulary Craig Mackey visited the staff and volunteers before they went out on the community consultation and problem solving exercise. The Chief spoke about the policing pledge to those assembled. Watch this space for more photographs and a detailed summary.
