Evaluation Reports from Barrow-in-Furness

Evaluation – Settle Street, Barrowin-Furness

6 teams visited 60 homes in the Settle Street / Ainslie Street area of Barrow-in-Furness. The team was briefed utilising local intelligence and by using the MOSAIC data which gave us a detailed snap shot of the community.
The main focus on this operation was to consult with residents about the Anti-social behaviour in the area and to establish what concerned them the most about living in their neighbourhood. We also used it to promote Neighbourhood Watch, active citizens and LOCK IT or LOSE IT campaign. This operation was requested by the Neighbourhood Police team for the area.
During the evening we spoke to 21 people who completed the community questionnaire.

Evaluation – Brown Street, Barrow-in-Furness

The main focus on this operation was to consult with residents about the Anti-social behaviour in the area and to establish what concerned them the most about living in their neighbourhood. We also used it to promote Neighbourhood Watch, active citizens and LOCK IT or LOSE IT campaign.
During the evening we spoke to 33 people who completed the community questionnaire.
We provided occupants with over 1,500 pieces of literature.
From the questionnaire we can evaluate over 900 pieces of information.
52% of the residents had heard of Streetsafe prior to this event.
42% knew their Neighbourhood Police team.
We talked to and listened to residents for over 16 hours in total.
Two smoke detectors were installed by Cumbria Fire and Rescue into homes that did not have any.
Twelve Streetsafe tasks have been issued to various agencies to resolve the problems identified by the community.

Newbarns Road, Barrow-in-Furness – evaluation report

5 teams visited 60 homes in Newbarns Road, Barrow-in-Furness. The team was briefed utilising local intelligence and by using the MOSAIC data which gave us a detailed snap shot of the community.
The main focus on this operation was to consult with residents about the Anti-social behaviour in the local park and to establish what concerned them the most about living in their neighbourhood. We also used it to promote Neighbourhood Watch, active citizens and LOCK IT or LOSE IT campaign.
During the evening we spoke to 17 people who completed the community questionnaire.
We provided occupants with over 400 pieces of literature.
From the questionnaire we can evaluate over 300 pieces of information.
88% of the residents had heard of Streetsafe prior to this event.
35% knew their Neighbourhood Police team.
We talked to and listened to residents for over 12 hours in total.
Smoke detectors will be installed by Cumbria Fire and Rescue into homes that did not have any.

Evaluation – Barrow Island

10 teams visited 120 homes on Barrow Island, concentrating on the Island Road, St Andrews Street area. The team was briefed utilising local intelligence and by using the MOSAIC Data which gave us a detailed snap shot of the community.
The main focus on this operation was to consult with residents and gain volunteers for the £1 million Big Local Trust and to establish what concerned them the most about living in their neighbourhood. We also used it to promote Neighbourhood Watch, active citizens and LOCK IT or LOSE IT campaign.
During the evening we spoke to 40 people who completed the community questionnaire.

Vulcan Road Streetsafe Evaluation

12 teams visited 140 homes in Vulcan Road, Brathay Crescent and Raglan Court, Barrow-in-Furness. The team was briefed utilising local intelligence and by using the MOSAIC Data which gave us a detailed snap shot of the community.
The main focus on this operation was to consult with residents and gain data to establish what concerned them the most about living in their neighbourhood. We also used it to promote active citizens.
During the evening we spoke to 60 people who completed the community questionnaire.
We provided occupants with over 2000 pieces of literature.
From the questionnaire we can evaluate over 3,000 pieces of information.
86% of the residents had heard of Streetsafe prior to this event.
We talked to and listened to residents for over 30 hours in total.
Fourteen Streetsafe tasks have been issued to various agencies to resolve the problems identified by the community.
During the event Cumbria Fire and Rescue installed several smoke detectors into homes that did not have any.

Streetsafe Evaluation, Year 8, Furness Academy

Police Authority Members, visited Furness Academy Barrow on the 7th July to speak to year 8 pupils about what they consider to be policing priorities within the Barrow area. As part of the visit, other Police talks were arranged for the pupils.
During the Streetsafe session, it was explained to them the purpose of Streetsafe and what it has achieved in their communities. The students were then asked to complete the specially adapted questionnaire.
99 questionnaires were completed during the morning and below is the evaluation of the data the young people provided us with. The evaluation report will be forwarded to Furness Academy and circulated around all year 8 students.
I would like take this opportunity to thank the Police Authority for inviting us to the event, staff at Furness Academy for looking after us and most of all the Year 8 students for their input, interest, politeness and inspiring answers.

Barrow night time Streetsafe, December 09

A Streetsafe team of 16 people visited The Railway, Public House (Wetherspoons chain) between 630pm and 8pm on Thursday 3rd December 2009.
The main focus on this operation was to actively promote various Christmas Safety Campaigns for partner agencies. We also wanted to find out if the customers had any concerns in relation to their safety when using the night time economy.
For the first time, we were able to offer customers free health checks, including blood pressure checks. This was very well received by staff and customers. 15 checks were carried out and it was recommended that 4 people visit their doctor. For the full report, please click here

Both Barrow Borough Council and the Neighbourhood Police Team for the area had received complaints from residents. We also used it to promote active citizens and ascertain levels of interest in young people becoming involved in diversionary activities such as Streetsoccer. Roose Streetsafe – 13th April 09

Have a look at the Evaluation Report here. 5 teams visited 40 homes around the Old Roose Hospital site, concentrating on homes in Dowie Close Barrow-in-Furness. The main focus on this operation was to gauge the level and concerns in relation to Anti-social behaviour and noise within the community. Barrow Borough Council has received several noise complaints from local residents in relation to off road motor cycles and as part of their community consultation, they requested a streetsafe operation. We also used it to promote active citizens and ascertain levels of interest in young people becoming involved in diversionary activities such as Streetsoccer.

Streetsafe Longway April 09

Many organisations assisted in delivering this community day with the main focus on delivering new bins, encourage recycling and tidying up the estate. Many people to thank but special thanks goes to SITA, BBC Housing, Community payback and the Roosegate Action Group.
The main focus on this operation was to encourage community participation, promote the community centre and the Roosegate Action Group. We also asked specific questions for Barrow Borough Housing Department. The event was also used to promote re-cycling and a general tidy up of the area. We also used it to promote active citizens and ascertain levels of interest in young people becoming involved in diversionary activities such as Streetsoccer.

To date Community payback have cleared an area of land next to the advertising, hoardings Commissioned work to remove the graffiti, Commissioned the installation of security lights, Reported all defective Streetlights, Referred homes for Fire safety checks, In communication with Network rail re the fencing and subway, Referred young people for NPT Working with street-soccer, arranged for patrols at key times as identified by residents, Developing residents in a hope in starting a Community Safety group for the area.
